Received this for Christmas and it is awesome!
Disclaimer: this is my first e-reader so I have nothing to compare it to. I am also a very new user and still haven't made it through the user guide... which is like 1000 pages and is very helpful but slightly intimidating!
Battery life is great and lasts for weeks.
I like the 'paper-like' option with no back-light for daytime reading. Easy on eyes and reads like a book. Honestly, I'm surprised at how 'book-like' the Kindle actually reads (also thanks to the leather-like amazon cover I received as well. I know that sounds like a bad advertisement but it's not. Another item I wouldn't have purchased for myself but so glad I got for the protection and feel). Only concern is that if you accidentally take brightness all the way to 0, you won't be able to see anything in the dark and it may be hard to find the 'increase brightness' symbol. The Kindle looks to be OFF in this mode if you are in the dark. NOT a complaint because I love it during the daytime, just a caution to anyone out there that may be reading while trying not to bother kids or spouses. Low-light is really good (better than my cell phone) but stop at 1 unless you have light.
Only issue I've had is that the Touch screen can be finicky if your hands are super dry. Noticed this after working outside in cold. Seems like touchscreen doesn't recognize finger if hands are too cold/dry. Lick your finger, put on lotion, or don't abuse your hands and I think you'll be fine.
Cant speak to it yet but I recently downloaded the ESV Bible translation (for FREE) and I'm looking forward to being able to bookmark, highlight, and make notes wherever and however I want without limitations of margins and poor hand writing. This makes it worth the cost to me for this feature alone and all the books are a bonus!
Dont quite understand it yet but you seem to get 2 free books every so often but you have to choose from a list of 6 or so books. I think they might be new releases on the Kindle format maybe?
Overall extremely satisfied with the Kindle so far. It's very intuitive and you really don't need to even read the guide unless you want to learn more about some of the lesser used or less obvious features. Definitely beats reading on iPad or phone by a long shot. The battery life and ease on the eyes make it worth the investment (although I must admit I was VERY hesitant to get one and would have waited for next years' Cyber-Monday sale if Santa hadn't hooked me up). Best gift and so glad I have one now. No longer have to leave lamp on to read and you can't beat the portability. At 4.75" x 6.5" in the case it's pretty much a large cell phone. On that note, also love being able to read without interruptions from text, emails, calls, etc.

A charming beach-town romance full of heart, humor, and slow-burn chemistry.

The Summer Share by Jenn McKinlay is the kind of summer romance that feels like salt air, sandy feet, and finding something—or someone—you didn’t know you needed. Equal parts heartfelt and humorous, this story delivers a charming mix of forced proximity, beach-town magic, renovation chaos, and emotional healing wrapped up in a swoony slow-burn romance.
Hannah Spencer is impossible not to root for. A travel influencer who has spent years roaming from place to place in her van with her lovable Great Dane, Dude, she initially feels untethered in the best and worst ways. Watching her stumble into Cape Split and unexpectedly start imagining a life with roots gave the story so much emotional depth. Hannah’s free-spirited nature balances beautifully with Simon O’Malley’s more practical, grounded personality, creating that delicious opposites-attract tension that makes every bit of banter sparkle.
Simon is grumpy in that quietly lovable way—guarded, dependable, and impossible not to fall for once the layers begin peeling back. The chemistry between him and Hannah grows naturally as they tackle repairs on their inherited beach house, moving from irritation to reluctant teamwork to genuine friendship and eventually something undeniably deeper. Their dynamic feels earned, making the romance all the sweeter.
One of the strongest parts of this story is the setting. Cape Split feels alive, full of quirky charm and cozy small-town energy that practically begs you to move there yourself. Add in the mystery of the house’s romantic history, renovation mishaps, and the emotional pull of figuring out where “home” really is, and the book becomes much more than a romance—it becomes a story about belonging.
And honestly? Dude the Great Dane may quietly steal every scene he’s in.
If you love beach-town romances with grumpy/sunshine vibes, forced proximity, home renovation chaos, lovable side characters, and emotional growth alongside the romance, The Summer Share is an easy addition to your summer reading list.

Strangers forced to share inherited beach house find love
Format: Kindle
The Summer Share is a light romance about Hannah and Simon, who discover that they both have inherited half of a beach house in the Outer Banks. Hannah is a travel vlogger who travels around the US in her camper van, and she is excited to have inherited her grandfather’s beloved beach home. Simon is excited to have inherited the beach house because he hopes to sell to help with his family’s medical bills. They are shocked to learn that their grandfathers left both of them the house. They must agree on what to do with the house, and live there for two months together.
I love the Outer Banks, the setting of this book. The premise of this book is really cute. Hannah and Simon are enemies who are attracted to each other, and they unexpectedly fall in love. However, their banter felt more antagonistic than flirty to me. The pacing of their story was very slow too. I love dual POV, but I found it odd that their POV would often have really similar thoughts and observations. Overall, their relationship just didn’t work for me.
I loved Hannah and Simon’s grandfathers’ story, and of course The Dude was the real hero of this book! His antics were hilarious. I could just picture him - huge, black and white and full of energy. I really loved the author’s description of the book’s setting. I felt like I was in the Outer Banks. I think this book would work for someone looking for a light beach read.
